This stunning cottage on Lake Rosseau in Muskoka is the result of exterior refinishing and a full interior demolition and re-design. We began this construction project by removing everything, right back to the studs and drilling out and fracturing the rock downstairs to open up and maximize usable space. Sequentially, we then installed proper ventilation and insulation to accompany the new plumbing, heating and electrical systems.

Upstairs we created the immense open concept great room, with white oak flooring and cedar tongue and groove on the ceiling. The exposed timber framing has all been bead blasted, stained and coated to create the illusion of a weathered look. The floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, complete with double sided angular limestone insert, allows for a warm ambiance in both sitting areas and gives a central focus to the other natural elements in the room.

The chef’s kitchen is complete with sleek and modern stainless appliances, faucets and hardware, while bringing us back to the natural elements with the extensive marble island, counter top and feature wall.

Connecting the two storeys is an intricate and unique staircase. Treaded in white oak flooring, this double winding staircase is self supporting with solid structural glass and stainless steel railings.

The master bedroom continues the grandiose design of the cottage with a unique en suite comprised of structural frosted glass walls. The luxury continues with steps to a lower leveled sitting area, leading to a private lake-side balcony.

On the exterior of the building, windows, doors and decks were replaced and redesigned for functionality. Innovative topless glass railings were installed to minimize any disturbance to the sought after Muskoka view. Cedar shake roofing, siding and landscaping completed the external visual appeal of this project.
