At Fitzmaurice Bros., we know first-hand the importance of having a robust stream of young people taking on skilled work in the trades, especially as more and more baby boomers hit retirement age. Many members of our team at all levels have benefited over the years from the mentorship of more experienced craftsmen, and we believe it’s our responsibility to help continue that tradition.
We are qualified to fulfill the hours required of apprenticeship programs in several trades and gladly take on strong apprentice candidates with long-term employment in mind. In fact, some of our best employees began as apprentices.
Note that while almost 90% of an apprenticeship is paid, on-the-job training, there are also loans, travel allowances and grants available to offset the costs of registration, tuition and certification.
- The General Carpenter apprenticeship consists of 3,844 to 7,200 hours of combined on-the-job and in-class technical training.
- Apprentices must complete three 8-week in-class technical training sessions.
- Once you have successfully completed the apprenticeship requirements, you receive a Certificate of Apprenticeship and are considered a journeyperson candidate. If you choose to challenge the Certificate of Qualification exam and pass, you become certified as a journeyperson in the trade.
- A person with at least 7,200 hours of related work experience is eligible to apply for a Trade Equivalency Assessment (TEA) and challenge the Certificate of Qualification exam to become certified as a journeyperson in this trade.
